18th century minister, John Wesley, was once asked how he attracted such large audiences to hear his town square sermons. He responded, "God lights me on fire with enthusiasm & people come to watch me burn."

"The fire on the altar must be kept burning; it must not go out. Every morning the priest is to add firewood and arrange the burnt offering on the fire... The fire must be kept burning on the altar continuously, it must not go out."

Brian has learned over the years that such advice is not only good for marriage, it's true in EVERY AREA OF OUR LIVES.

What, exactly, is a tinderbox?

A tinderbox is a small container containing flint, firesteel, and tinder (typically charcloth, but possibly a small quantity of dry, finely-divided fibrous matter such as straw), used together to help kindle a fire. In short, a tinderbox contained the elements needed to start a fire.  It was commonly used through the 18th century. Although the tinderbox hasn't been around for many years, it makes the perfect symbol for our club.

In addition to the literal box reference, consider today's common usage of the term. We often use "tinderbox" to refer to something that is so dry that it could catch on fire with the slightest provocation. After 20 years developing independent salespeople & business owners, Brian is convinced that is an apt description of our hearts. Most of us need only the slightest provocation to catch fire with enthusiasm and subsequently create that new world of which we dream.

Everything in our lives today is "set it & forget it." We set up our payments to be automatically drafted from our checking account each month. We have irrigation systems to automatically water our grass , and we have gas logs in our fireplace.

Thus, our bills get paid, our grass looks great & we have a warm, romantic setting in the house even though we are essentially neglecting the bills, the grass & the fire. Seems like a pretty good plan. All the benefits with none of the work!

But have you ever built a fire without a gas line or gas logs in the fireplace? If you want to keep that flame burning, you must constantly tend it. There is no "magic key" to set & forget. The same is true of your passion for your dreams. If you don't constantly tend that flame, it soon flickers & dies. It's sad, but true, there are no gas logs in your heart.

And therein lies the dilemma: When everything else in our world is "set it & forget it," how do you cultivate a mindset of "tending" anything? And if you do, where do you start? What tools are available?
